22 Pistol

Does anyone know of a 22 handgun that has a higher capacity than 10 or so rounds?

I'm considering picking one up for plinking and target shooting, but would rather have a double stack magazine that can hold 20 or so rounds. I'm also looking for something that looks and feels more like a traditional semi auto handgun than the Charger.

Thanks for the advice!

Also as an update to a previous post, I now have a Ruger 10 22, a Mosin Nagant, and a Glock 17. Still looking for the right shotgun.

A Kel Tec PLR 22 although classified as a pistol it probably isn't what your looking for.

I have very often wondered why they don't make very hi cap .22 rifles and pistols like say 100 rounds per mag or something.

You might be able to find a used Calico .22. I think they used 100 round mags.

Ruger Charger is a pistolized version of a 10/22, so you can use 30 rd or whatever 10/22 mags.

Of course then again, that may not be what you're looking for...

That's a great looking gun, but again 10 round magazine capacity. I just don't get it.

I am not aware of any double-stack .22 rimfire magazines. The rimmed .22 round does not feed well from double-stack magazines. So the magazines are all single-stack, helical, or rotary types.

I have one of these and yes they are ten round, but easy enough to get a few extra mags for. It is an excellent little practice sidearm. Not the best for CCW or home defense, but fun to shoot and it'll keep you up on your shooting practice a lot cheaper than any other handgun you might have around. Changing mags often is also practice, so ten is about right. Double stack would not work with rimmed cartridges, is why you never see it done in any .22, just won't happen. Ruger 10/22 have high cap mags, but those do not double stack.

Instead of looking for a pistol that comes from the manufacturer with a greater-than-10 magazine, you might try finding a third-party magazine manufacturer that makes a greater-than-10 magazine and see what pistols they make those magazines for. I doubt a gun manufacturer is going to bother to supply with the gun a greater-than-10 magazine, since most shooters are happy to make do with it.

Farscott is correct. rimmed ammunition does not feed well from double stack magazines. You see few if any .22 pistols with higher capacity because double stack mags are unreliable and rotary or helical mags are by and large too bulky for use with pistols.

Many early war rifles with rimmed cartridges had double-stack magazines.

Kind of ridiculous. A purposeless firearm that costs as much as 10 purposeful firearms.

I'd rather have a $200 Marlin Papoose.
